The role
Breakwater Cyber Corp. is a fractional Cybersecurity Officer service for privately owned marine terminals. Travel is a large part of the job. Other than the travel, the work is remote and location independent. You start with one facility assignment. It can grow from there if you want more assignments.
You would be the named Cybersecurity Officer in the facility plans. The work is the Cybersecurity Assessment, writing and maintaining the Cybersecurity Plan, running drills and exercises, delivering the training program, deciding what to do about known exploited vulnerabilities, responding to incidents, and keeping the records the rule requires.
You would be reachable by the Coast Guard 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That availability is part of the role and it is compensated.
Hourly, W-2 employment, not a contractor role. Hours start at one facility and grow with the client base. Keep your current work if you wish. Your role will start when you are assigned to a signed facility. Work and payroll will not start before that day.
We hire civilian W-2 employees. Separating enlisted members, including MSTs, are welcome. This is not a SkillBridge host role and it is not an active-duty or sitting Coast Guard billet.
Requirements
- Maritime facility operations. A waterfront facility or marine terminal, a Coast Guard Sector Prevention department, commercial facility inspections, or a port operations role.
- Vessel, facility, or OCS operations. General vessel, facility, or OCS facility operations and conditions.
- Audit or inspection experience against a written standard.
- Security or IT operations in an industrial or operational technology environment.
- Willing to be named in a federal filing and reachable at any hour.
- Able to travel to client facilities. Travel is a large part of the job.
- A TWIC is strongly preferred. It is not required to be hired. Eligible to hold a TWIC. You do not need one already.
We hire candidates with these backgrounds: Facility Security Officers, port and terminal operations and facility security staff, Coast Guard veterans, marine inspectors, and enlisted separatees with security or industrial operations experience.
Travel
This job is remote, but travel is a large part of the job. Facilities are anywhere in the United States, and the work that has to happen on site happens on site: assessments, drills, exercises, audits, and attending when a facility needs you.
We fly you to every facility and we pay travel costs. Travel is booked and paid by us, so you will not be fronting airfare on a personal card.
If frequent flying to industrial sites in unfamiliar places is not something you want, this is not the role, and it is better to know that now than after a first call.
Apply
Email a CV and a note about where you are based, what you have run, and whether you have held an FSO designation or MST (or equivalent) facility operations experience.
